Off-Season Maintenance: Part 1 – Chassis Inspection

In part 1 of the Off-Season Maintenance Series, Tim McAmis shows you how to inspect for chassis fatigue. Beginning with tearing your car down as far as it will allow, it is important check all tubing joints, welds and highly-strained areas for paint chipping and general movement. Throughout the video, McAmis gives examples of common things to look for on a 4130 chromoly chassis and signs of stress caused by the enormous abuse created by a drag car.

The DRA Off-Season Maintenance Series takes a detailed look at what items to inspect and address on your race car when the drag racing season comes to a close. By properly maintaining your vehicle during the off-season, you will be better prepared and able to campaign a highly competitive vehicle when racing resumes. In addition, you will prevent general fatigue and wear and tear from turning into catastrophic failures that could turn into costly repairs for you vehicle.
