One of the first questions you need to answer when building or purchasing a door slammer is what kind of chassis configuration fits my combination? It is best to answer this question regarding your current program and where you intend to go in the future with this race car.
The most central chassis design feature that effects how your race car will perform is the frame rail design. Determining whether you need a Single vs. Double Frame Rail set-up will make your racing experience much easier if the design is paired correctly with your car.
In this video, Tim McAmis explains the differences between a Single vs. Double Frame Rail chassis and provides a range of examples to help you narrow down which design will work best for you.
Single Frame Rail:
- Great for many combinations (Up to 2,000hp)
- Allows more chassis flex & power absorption (Benefit for varying/lesser track surfaces)
Double Frame Rail:
- Great for high power combinations (Over 2,000 hp)
- Very rigid chassis, minimal flex (Good for national event type surface)
